I fell in love with the British Short Hair after first seeing one at the start of the millennium. Despite all my efforts to locate one in Malaysia, I was left consoling myself with pictures of these beautiful cats in books or websites. I thought that I would never have the chance of ever possessing such a beautiful creature.
Fortunately, my boyfriend who noticed my captivation had managed to persuade Miss Lisa Jurkiewicz of Lukhaila Cattery in Australia to part with one of her kittens and secretly acquired a male British Blue Shorthair kitten aged 4 months old to console me after my 12 year old mixed Persian named Juliet passed away in 2002. My first British Blue Shorthair, the cat that I had dreamed about, arrived into our loving home in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia in February 2003. I was overjoyed and thrilled at the first sight of Lukhaila Blue Beard or Jules as he is fondly known as.
Following the advice from our veterinarian, Dr Hasnul Ismail, we decided to register our cat with the Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc. based in the USA, with the hope of promoting this breed in Malaysia as well as to interact and bond with other cat lovers.
We attended our first CFA cat show held at the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in conjunction with the Malaysian Independence Day in August 2003. It opened our eyes to the loving passion and quest shared by exhibitors to promote their cats and respective breeds despite the sacrifices involved. We resolved to devote further time and effort to promote and enhance the reputation of the British Shorthair in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines through the selective breeding as well as showing of superior and distinguished bloodlines.
Despite many trials and tribulations, especially from breeders wary of our intentions, we managed to convince Miss Vera Chan of Autumnleaf Cattery in Hong Kong to let us have 2 breeding queens namely Autumnleaf Alyssa of Bluebabe and Autumnleaf Ameena of Bluebabe to begin our modest and selective breeding program.
Our small home-based cattery registered with the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. has focused on breeding and promoting the British Blue Shorthair in South East Asia through English, American and Australian lines that include Stonehaven, Brittasweet, Marshallpark, Kaloofa, Kendrick, Autumnleaf and Willcombe. Since 2006 and in line with our aspirations, we have shown our cats throughout South East Asia, helped organize CFA cat shows in Malaysia, qualified as a CFA registered Ring Clerk and met many new friends that share our passion.
We hope to continue this enchanting journey with our cats and our friends. Thank you for visiting our website, reading about our story and enjoying our cats.
